Laser inscribed diamonds have been around for a long time now. It's helpful to have the report number inscribed on a diamond, it gives quick, easy, and accurate matching of that diamond to a
diamond grading report.
Some companies also offer laser inscription of a phrase onto a diamond for an additional charge. You can use your imagination....
"Roses are red, Violets are blue, Is this diamond big enough for you?"
"Diamonds better be forever, it will take me that long to pay for this!"

#1- If you buy a diamond with a laser inscription on it it, you will want to make sure that you can actually see the inscription after it's been set into
a mounting. I've seen where there the diamond setter ended up placing the girdle area that has the inscription under a prong. It wasn't anything that was done intentionally.... these
inscriptions are difficult to see even with 10X magnification and diamond setters only work with about 5 - 6X magnification. If the diamond setter didn't know that the diamond they are
setting has a laser inscription along the girdle they could easily miss seeing it.
#2- Having a laser inscribed diamond will be helpful if you want to check your diamond after getting it back from being worked on.... it's a bit reassuring
to just check the number to know that everything is the way it should be.
#3- In case of theft it will also help in recovery, however it is possible for a diamond cutter to polish off a laser inscription.
