- Important Take Away Points -
Pear Shape Diamonds

#1- With Pear Shape Diamonds, as with the Marquise Cut and the Oval Shape diamonds, there is an increased likelihood of having a "bow tie" effect. This is a dark area in the shape of, you guessed it!, a bow tie that occurs when the alignment and angles of the facets are not at their optimum. This facet misalignment can detract from the brilliance and the overall attractiveness.

#2- As with the Marquise Cut, the pointed end of Pear Shape diamonds can present durability problems. A slightly thick to thick girdle should give the diamond enough strength especially if it is to be worn in a ring.

Pear Shape diamonds with very thick to extremely thick girdle can cause difficulty in setting and it also hides the weight below the girdle where you cannot see it (this is excessive weight that you are paying for!).
